The first night in your new home is usually surreal, emotional, and exciting all at the same time. It marks the beginning of a new life with new opportunities and challenges too. Once you finally get the last box into the house, your new life begins. While it may seem like too soon, your responsibilities in the new home begin as soon as you move in. Here are the things you must do the first night after you have moved into your new home.

    1.      Unpack the Day One Items

When packing for your move, you need to pack your ‘day one items’. These are generally items that you must use on your first day. Amongst the items to pack in this box include pots and pans, everyday clothes, plates, and personal hygiene items. Ensure you unpack the fragile items first to avoid breaking or damaging them. Clearly mark your day one boxes clearly. Generally, kitchen items are more important to unpack on day one than any other items.

    2.      Ask for Restaurant Recommendations

Since it is your first night in your new home, you may not be able to use your kitchen to cook, even after unpacking your kitchenware. Opting to dine out is a reasonable option for your first day. You can ask your new neighbours for restaurant recommendations. You can also order home delivery if you feel that going out to eat will waste too much time.

    3.      Re-Establishes Old Routines Immediately

If you have pets and children, moving into a new house can completely disorient them. To ensure that they do not have a hard time adjusting to the new environment, you need to establish their old routines as soon as possible. If you can, set up the kids’ bedrooms and play areas on the first night. This helps them to get used to the environment faster.

    4.      Get Rid of Trash and Arrange Your Moving Boxes

If you don’t want to have a lot of cleaning to do after the unpacking, you should clear the clutter and arrange your boxes as soon as they are emptied. Having boxes and other items lying around the house creates unnecessary clutter. By keeping your space clean, you will find that you have very little to clean and get rid of after unpacking. Make sure to ask your neighbours when the trash truck comes around and when the recycling day is too. Also, ensure you have cleaning supplies at hand to help with the cleaning.

    5.      Relax

Moving is a stressful process, and it is possible to get overwhelmed on the first night in your new home. Therefore, take some time off the unpacking and just relax. While there may seem like there is too much to do to afford time out, you can always squeeze in a few minutes in between unpacking to just sit and relax as you admire how much you have accomplished. Also, do not try to get everything unpacked on your first day. Once your body is worn out, you can retire for the day and pick up where you left off the next day.

If you do not want to deal with the hustle of unpacking and arranging your new home, you can hire professional movers can handle packing, moving, unpacking and arranging. Contact them for all your moving needs.
