Drawing/Modeling
Entire Set of 10 Tapes For $390 $49 each
1. Drawing Comes First
An industrial designer translate an idea into sketches and then a final design and an artist demonstrates simple drawing techniques and materials.

2. Drawing to Order
This program concentrates on a detaied exposition of technical drawing by an industrial designer. We also demonstrate that the design process incorporates skillful use of available resources as well as using basic graphic techniques.

3. Effective Drawing
Some basic graphics techniques are demonstrated in clear, easy to follow, step-by-step stages. Graphics techniques from earlier programs are discussed in greater detail and the use of colored pencils and marker pens is illustrated.

4. Computer Graphics
The program shows how the computer can be used as a design tool. We see the making of the program titles for this series and talk to their designer. The graphics programs available for microcomputers in schools are demonstrated.

5. Presenting Ideas
When the idea has been conceived and developed, drawings should show the idea or product in its final form incorporating appropriate color techniques. Model making adds another dimension to the presentation stage. We talk to a young fashion student who won a Design Council Award for her presentation portfolio.

6. Communicatin Ideas
This program is about the use of drawing and modeling to communicate ideas. The film follows a first-year project which emphasizes communication skills. The main project was to design a package for a small jigsaw puzzle the students had already made. They are asked to think about designing the package and its lettering so that it reflects and complements the design of the jigsaw.

7. Making Models
The program shows what a useful and potent tool modeling is to the designer, and shows the work of a professional model maker. Particular emphasis is given to modeling material suitable for school use.

8. Mechanical Toys
The history of mechanical toys dates back to the Ancient Egyptians, but only in the 19th century did mass production techniques make them widely available. The program looks at the mechanisms which make them work and shows stages in the construction of an ingenious mechanical toy.

9. Dressmaking
Dresses are produced by the million for large chainstores. The program shows the decisions that have to be made during the design process, how computers are used as design aids and how quality and cost influence the decisions.

10. Make a Model
We examine the simplest forms of model making familiar to children and look at the use of scientific models, visiting the studios of Industrial Product Model Makers. The program ends with a short sequence showing architectural model-making.
